About the trail
The Greenway delle Due Cittadelle connects Casale Monferrato and Alessandria over 44 km of canals, countryside and the climb to San Salvatore.
What to look out for
From Canale Lanza, the route reaches Borgo San Martino and Occimiano, where a white bicycle commemorates road victims. Gravel roads continue towards Mirabello and Valdolenga before the climb to San Salvatore Monferrato. The descent into Valle Quarta precedes strada Porcellana and entry into Alessandria, with the citadel as the destination.

Start and practical details
Start at Casale’s Cittadella; the route also works in reverse. Much of the surface is gravel or dirt, with asphalt sections. For a train return, check the chosen day’s timetable and bicycle carriage.
