Krumiri, Gonzaga and Barbera

Krumiri, Gonzaga and Barbera: Stage 18 leads from Lu and Cuccaro Monferrato to Casale Monferrato via Conzano, Terruggia, Casale Monferrato. From Lu a panoramic descent reaches Conzano. After crossing the white villages and Terruggia, a long mixed route descends to the gates of Casale and concludes the ring in Piazza Castello.

Description of the route

The last stage starts from the small square of Lu Monferrato and takes the direction of Mirabello. After passing Tenuta San Sebastiano, a long descent crosses open hills and numerous panoramic points. The first stretch alternates short asphalted sections with dirt roads, passes near a farmhouse and goes around the town of Conzano.

Descending into the valley the view opens up on the white villages built with cantoni stone, a direct reference to the landscapes encountered in the first stage. Near Roncaglia you cross the provincial road and come across a church; an isolated road then leads to the village of Terruggia.

From Terruggia a long descent begins on mixed terrain, partly path and partly asphalt. The hilly landscape progressively lowers and the first peripheral areas of Casale Monferrato appear. It is a gradual approach, which allows you to reinterpret from afar the city from which the journey began.

The final entrance leads to Piazza Castello and closes the ring. The castle recalls the history of the Gonzaga family, while the Regional Enoteca and the streets of the center bring back the flavors of the area, from Barbera to Krumiri. After 18 stages, the return to the same place transforms the square into a true point of arrival: not only the geographical conclusion of the route, but the synthesis of the landscapes, villages and cultures crossed along the entire Great Path.
