Crote and classic method

Crote and classic method: stage 6 leads from Castagnole delle Lanze to Canelli through Castiglione Tinella, Calosso, Canelli. Vineyards and hills accompany the journey from Castagnole to Castiglione Tinella. After Calosso, a succession of rural roads and rows descend towards Canelli and its historic cellars.

Description of the route

Castagnole delle Lanze is located on the cultural and landscape border between Monferrato and Langhe. From the center you initially take the road to Neive, pass the railway and cross the Tinella stream. The route thus enters the landscape that will accompany much of the day: hills thick with vineyards, rural roads and continuous changes in altitude.

Following Via Valle Bera, you leave the main road and go up between the rows with a series of turns. Once you reach the top, the road leads to Castiglione Tinella and its gullies. It is the closest point to the Langhe of the entire Great Walk, already in the province of Cuneo. The Remo Poggio–Bruno Arione route allows you to enter the village directly and cross it before continuing the descent.

Beyond the cemetery you return to the vineyards and lose altitude towards the Castiglione Tinella station. After a short stretch on the road to Santo Stefano Belbo, a hairpin climb and a detour through the rows lead below Calosso. Having reached the town, the path crosses another important wine-growing area before continuing towards the Santa Libera, Sant'Antonio and Bassano regions.

The final part remains immersed in the vineyards and alternates secondary roads with dirt passages. The descent towards Canelli progressively offers glimpses of the city and the Moscato hills. Via Alba leads into the urban centre, where Piazza Amedeo d'Aosta concludes a challenging stage due to the difference in altitude but extremely coherent in its narrative of the vineyard landscape.
