Discovering Piea
Piea (Pièja in Piedmont) is an Italian municipality of 490 inhabitants[1] from the province of Asti in the Piemonte.
The town is home to a castle, first fortification, then palace kindness: original of the 11th century, in the 18th century it was home to the Counts Roero. It hosts an antique exhibition in May and is included in the historical-museum circuit of "Castelli Aperti" del Basso Piemonte.

The name of the country refers to the persistence of Roman traditions, since it is traceable to a voice of the Latin vulgar "plagea" or "plagia" which means "surfaces or declive land". The name of Piea can therefore derive from the translation of the Latin noun "plagia" in "piagga" that in Piedmont dialect would correspond to Piea or Pieja.
Another possibility is that the name Piea derives from Pleya or even Playa, the first feudal lords of the country. Therefore it is not excluded that it was the country to give its name to the Lords, as many noble families of Piedmont have for their surname the name of a fief. Only in historical documents dating back to the beginning of the 15th century is made expressly reference to Piea, the current name of the country.

- Parish church, erected at the end of the 16th century, with the name "Saint Philip and James Apostles" to which it was added "Mary Mother of God"
- Chapel of the Blessed Virgin of the Snow, adjacent to the present cemetery, was built in 1600, by virtue of a vote made by the community for liberation from the plague scourge
- Chapel of San Sebastiano, in the center of the village, was built around 1600. In 1863 the bell tower was restored, and
- Church of San Grato was erected by the inhabitants of the homonymous village just before 1700.
- Church of Vallunga, dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine
- In addition, in the territory, 890 hectares, there are 15 santellas, which create that evocative religious aspect that perhaps was the origin of the vocation of Fr. Guglielmo Alessio, martyr for the testimony of evangelical charity.
- The castle is an ancient fortress just after the year one thousand, which in 1700 underwent the demolition of the ramparts, to make it a nice residence, then surrounded by a wonderful Italian garden
- Suggestive are also several wells, escaped time

Location and fractions
The town of Piea is composed of fractions, scattered farmhouses and resorts.
The villages of Piea are:
- Primparino: stretched to the sides of the Asti-Chivasso state before the village of Piea arriving from Gallareto.
- Vallunga: placed on a modest hill on the provincial road that leads to Viale.
- San Grato and Vallia: two small hamlets on a hill overlooking the village of Primparino.
They are also part of the municipality of Piea a remarkable group of cascinals scattered in the municipal territory; we list some more representative:
- Rodino: place on a hill near the village Primparino.
- Varandone: group of houses located on the provincial road that connects Piea to Cunico.
- Caffarotto: group of farmhouses located on the hill behind the village Primparino towards Castelvero.
- Vaccarito/Chiusa: places between Piea and the Vallunga hamlet near the Rio di Monale called Rio Bravie.
- Ingazzo: group of houses to the right of the state road going towards Cortanze.
- San Secondo: group of farmhouses located on the hill connected to Cortanze, perhaps the first settlement of Piea.
