History of Vesime
SymbolsExplore this chapter
In autumn 1944, a partisan airport was built in Vesime to promote allied missions and transport of wounded people. The coded airport was called Excelsior.
Symbols
The coat of arms and gonfalone of the municipality of Vesime were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 6 August 1988.[4]
The wild boar refers to the hunting trips that took place in this municipality already from the Middle Ages, to which in the nineteenth century also took part the King Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy; this animal was so widespread in the surrounding woods to give the vesiimesis the popular nickname I'm going to ("the boars"). The red and gold bands recall the noble deeds of the oldest feudal lords of Vesime, the Del Carretto and the Scarampi.[5]
The gonfalone is a drape party of white and blue.
