Blaxonarium Casalense, some coat of arms belonging to the families of Monferrato

The original is made up of 39 paper sheets and comes from the manuscripts of the De Conti archive and without doubt it can be traced back to the 18th century. In fact, he was found in this archive by Pier Felice degli Uberti in a kitchen recipe fund, as stated by the same heraldic expert.[1] The Uberti also tells us that "...The Blasonario designed by De Conti is added 32 coats of arms from the other bottom of the De Conti Archive or hired by families and certificates with a certification of the last Cronista de Armas of the Kingdom of Spain, or non-monferrine families but present in Casale Monferrat for various reasons." and adds that "..this addition, well distanced from De Conti's original text, is due to the fact that in 200 years many things have changed and heraldically other new families have been added that use a coat of arms." In it are illuminated the civic coat of arms used at that time, the arms of the four dynasties that ruled Monferrato and 213 coats of arms of noble or notable families of the city. The largely colored coats of arms are in no particular order and the Latin surname appears in block letters under each one. Although the creator of the coats of arms, as can easily be seen from the images, was not an expert miniaturist, this is the most complete historical collection of coats of arms known to date in the Monferrato.[2]

The following table shows the names associated with family blasons present in the Blaxonarium and translated from Latin into its anastatic copy. Therefore it is not excluded (until proven otherwise) that the current Italian version reported does not conform in an absolute way to the ancient diction, especially because it may not be univocal. For example, the last name in the Latin version Cevalerius has been translated as "Cevaleri" but it is not excluded that it can be translated even with the most current Knights or Horsemen depending on the successive potential changes. For convenience and for trust in the criteria adopted by the academic team of experts who has curated the same research (including the former Italian Prime Minister Giovanni Goria, at the time Minister of the Treasury), we report the translation present in the anastatic copy.
