Discovering Azzano d'Asti

Azzano d'Asti (Asan in Piedmont) is an Italian municipality of 374 inhabitants[2] from the province of Asti in Piemonte, located on one of the hills south Tanaro from which it is crossed in the flat part of the municipal territory. It is presumed a Roman origin for which the name derives from the gentle name of the possessing, Adius.

It is first mentioned in a document of the year 897 and, before the year 1000, it is provided with a castle. In the following decades, Azzano was among the territories disputed between the Viscontis and the Marquis of Monferrato. In 1620, under the Duchy of Savoy, the town was granted as a fief to the Capra family.
