Discovering Belveglio
Belveglio (Birvej or Belvej in Piedmontese) is an Italian municipality of 308 inhabitants[2] from the province of Asti in the Piemonte.
In the Middle Ages the locality was known by the name of Malamorte. It is probable that the toponym derives from the continuous battles that raged in the territory such as to consider them lands of evil death.
History of Belveglio

The first lord of Malamorte was Raimondo Turco (1003 - 1092), coming from a noble family of Asti; Raimondo was also enfeoffed of the locality of Mombercelli.
THE Aleramic marquises of Incisa they became masters of the locality after the descent of Federico Barbarossa in 1155, who defeated and burned the city of Asti, but after the Peace of Constance (1183) they were forced to return it to the Municipality of Asti.
Following the civil wars in Asti between the Solaro and Guttuari factions, Malamorte suffered many destructions, until the city of Asti passed under the domination of Luchino Visconti, to whom the people of Asti had given the lordship of the city (1342), who put an end to the disputes by assigning the village to the Guttuari.
In 1387, the village appears in Valentina Visconti's dowry for her marriage to Louis of Valois and probably in this period the locality changed its name to Belvedere (Bellumviderium Astensium).
In 1527 Belvedere came under the dominion of Emperor Charles V and in 1531 it passed to his sister-in-law Beatrice, Duchess of Savoy and mother of Emanuele Filiberto.
In 1806, Napoleon Bonaparte included the village in the department of Marengo and in this period the name changed (the last one) from Belvedere to Belveglio.
