History of Camagna Monferrato
20th century · 21st century · SymbolsExplore this chapter
According to some historians, Charlemagne granted the fief of Camagna to the canons of San Martino di Tours, a concession that was subsequently confirmed in 887 with a diploma by Emperor Charles the Gross. By will from the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa the fief of Camagna was finally ceded to marquises of Monferrato (1164). However, it is more likely that Camagna was immediately part of the Marca Aleramica granted by Emperor Otto I in 967 to Aleramo, the first Marquis of Monferrato.
At the top of the village, surrounded by the ancient Via Rocca, there are some remains of the old castle, built by marquises of Monferrato probably on the site of a pre-existing castle of Lombard origin. Towards the end of the eighteenth century the castle was almost entirely rebuilt and is now a private residence.
20th century
In this municipality the partisan formation III Brigata Matteotti, known as Banda Lenti was active.
21st century
Hosting part of the nurses of Monferrato, since 2014 Camagna has been a UNESCO world heritage site.[5]
In April 2024 in Camagna the Museum of the Resistance of Monferrato was inaugurated, in the birthplace of Eusebio Giambone.
Symbols
The coat of arms and gonfalone of the municipality of Camagna Monferrato were granted by the decree of the President of the Republic of 13 February 1957.[6][7] The coat of arms depicts, in the red field, a natural castle, open to the camp, equipped with a central tower, adorned to the guelfa, and founded on a green countryside. The gonfalone is a drape party of red and green.[7]

Typical products
Honey.
Honey, precious food and nutrients, was introduced thanks to the company, at Bonina Region, by Elio De Bernardi. Bee breeding allows you to obtain a product that is easily sold as it is highly appreciated for its quality. Among the varieties produced today are, for example, acacia/robinia honeys (the most widespread), millefiori and melata. Honey is used with sweets, polenta, boiled potatoes; it was once an energy appetizer consumed together with butter. Mixed with hot milk, still today provides a drink that helps in the care of respiratory affections combined with herbs such as thyme and sage.
