Discovering Castellar Guidobono
Castellar Guidobono (Castla Guidbòu in the dialect of the city) is an Italian municipality of 432 inhabitants[1] from the province of Alessandria in the Piemonte.
The municipality is located between the Grue and Curone streams, on the extreme hilly slopes of the valley of the latter.
History of Castellar Guidobono
SymbolsExplore this chapter
Tied to the municipality of Tortona, whose fate it followed, was a fiefdom of the Guidobono Cavalchini of Monleale, from which the name derives.
The first historical trace of the village dates back to 5 November 979, in which a diploma of Emperor Otto II assigns to Chancellor Gerberto the jurisdiction of the city of Tortona up to the Castle of Squarzoni, where Castello is intended as castrum, i.e. a fortified place, while Squarzonum refers to the feudal family of the time, the Squarzoni of Tortona.[4]
At the beginning of the 16th century, when the duchy of Milan is conquered by the French, the neighbors Viguzzolo, of the Guelph faith, almost destroy the village, as revenge against the Ghibelline feudal lords of Castellaro.[5]
Symbols
The coat of arms of the municipality of Castellar Guidobono was granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 4 July 1956.[6][7]
The composition of the shield is inspired by the coat of arms of the Guidobono Cavalchini family that was: blue and gold bandage; with the head of the second, loaded with a black crowned eagle.
