Discovering Cessole
C'èssole (C in Piedmont) is an Italian municipality of 318 inhabitants[1] from the province of Asti in the Piemonte. Located in the middle of Langa Astigiana, which is perhaps the most scenic, given the position of the old village, perched on the hill, made it visible and appreciable from afar, it contains in a few square kilometers typical landscape views of the area, that have helped make it love and appreciate by many foreign tourists who have now made their destination for holidays and stays or even of buen retiro.
History of Cessole
SymbolsExplore this chapter
During the Second World War, during the period of Nazi occupation and the Italian Social Republic, two Jewish families among themselves are found refuge in Cessole, the Luzzatti di Asti and the Germans of Genoa. The rescue came from two families of Cessole, also related to each other: the Ambrostol, who took care of the Luzzatti, and the Brandone, who dealt with the Germans. Despite the rafts, Jewish families survived until they were able to repair in Switzerland.
For this commitment of solidarity, on 19 May 1999, the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem gave the spouses Emilio and Virginia Ambrostolo and Domenico and Luigia Brandone the high honor of the righteous among nations.[4]
Symbols
The coat of arms and gonfalone of the municipality of Cessole were granted by the decree of the President of the Republic of 5 June 2001.[5]

- Parish Church of N. Ms. Assunta, also known as Santa Maria del Castello, designed by the architect Giacomo del Carretto, student of Filippo Juvarra, presents itself as two superimposed buildings, modeling the Basilica of Assisi. The lower construction houses the oratory of the Brotherhood of Disciplinates, in local dialect Batù, while the superior one constitutes the parish headquarters.
The laying of the first stone dates back to 1779. The building was finished in 1784 and is characterized by an architectural style that can be traced back to the Piedmontese Baroque - Arcades of S. Rocco, under whom, by concession of Federico del Carretto Marquise di Spigno and the Council of His Catholic Majesty the King of Spain, was held the first market in the Bormida valley, on the first Wednesday of June 1640
- Numerous bell churches scattered in the municipal territory, among which the Madonna della Neve located in the homonymous hamlet, the church of S. Alessandro, located on the right bank of the Bormida river that cuts in two the municipal territory and the church of S. Antonio, located at the top of the old village and in correspondence of the ancient cemetery, of which probably was the church. The basic structure gives the probable origin to the year about 1100.
