History of Cossombrato
SymbolsExplore this chapter
Of ancient origin, in the Middle Ages it was possession of the bishops of Asti. In 1290 it was the scene of the struggle between Guelphs and Ghibelline. In 1320 the Pelletta erected a castle, in which they took refuge during the period of struggle against the Solaro. Of the imposing castle now remain the most important structures, although in part they were refurbished in various successive eras.
The church of San Rocco is from 1700: to what the writings of the time refer, it was erected to eradicate the plague of the epizootic aphta.[4]

Symbols
The coat of arms and gonfalone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic 17 October 1992.[5]
The rampant lion is resumed by the coat of arms of the Pelletta family (gold, blue lion, armed and flashed red, crowned with the field), noble bankers from Asti, owners of Home in Valle d'Aosta and Savoia, and feudal lords of Cossombrato.
The banner is a blue cloth.[6]
