History of Tigliole

SymbolsExplore this chapter

The name Teliolas appears for the first time in 974 between the territories donated by the emperor to the bishop of Asti. Teliolas at that time, however, could be territorially matched to the present Tigliolette. Around the 11th century, this town took the name of "Teglole inferiores" to distinguish it from "Tegloles superiores", which developed further upstream, in the places of the present village center. This second place appears for the first time in 1041 in a list of goods owned directly by the Church and therefore dependent on the bishop of Pavia. The two communities had different stories until the 1500s, when, with the decay and abandonment of Tegloles inferiores, the territories were unified and remained only a name that, with successive changes, became, in fact, Tigliole.
Among the first infiudations of the village appeared in the thirteenth century those to the Solaro, invested by the bishop of Pavia. From 1340 to 1353 the domain passes to Luchino Visconti, and then returns to Solaro. In 1422, for failing to fulfil the feudal obligations towards the bishop of Pavia, the Solaro are declared to be deceased. In 1424 the bishop passed the fief to the Lords of Montafia.

In the 16th century a long dispute arises between the bishop of Asti and that of Pavia for the possessions of Tigliole. In 1577 the last count of Montafia died without leaving male heirs and the Pope seized the fief and assigned it to a governor, an abbot.
From that moment on, the entire territory of Tigliole becomes direct possession of the Pope, led by an Abbot governor. The abbots who have succeeded in the centuries have always defended papal authority firmly. But in 1741 Charles Emmanuel III of Savoy obtained from the pope the vicariat on Tigliole. With the advent of the successor, Vittorio Amedeo III, all privileges until then enjoyed by the community come to an end; even tigliolesis are subject to the obligations of all other subjects.

With the Savoy, the fief passes first to the Marquis of Ormea, then to the counts of Andezeno, then to the Tapparelli.

Symbols

The coat of arms of the municipality of Tigliole was granted, together with the municipal gonfalone, by decree of the President of the Republic of 22 April 2008.[4]

"By blue, at the three carbides, of natural wood, perforated of the field, well ordered, threaded by the golden rope, coming out from the hole of the first, entering to view in the hole of the third, returning to sight in the hole of the second. Exterior ornaments from the Municipality.»

The gonfalone is a yellow drape.

The center, which extends for about 4 hectares on the hills of Tigliole, is a hospital structure for injured wild animals: the aim is to allow wounded animals to fully recover their abilities. The center is not only focused on the recovery of fauna: the LIPU section of Asti organizes numerous initiatives that have as a standpoint the recovery center. Many activities are aimed at research and scientific dissemination (radiotracking, ringing for scientific purposes, positioning of artificial nests). Furthermore, every year the center hosts school groups for environmental education lessons.

  • The museum is present The art of the saddle that illustrates the saddle art by subdividing it into three sections: materials, tools and artifacts.
