About the trail

The medieval tower of Visone is the starting point of an excursion that goes up from the town to the Acquese hills. The Monte Menno offers the widest panorama, while the small loop of the rio Tassere leads between villages and woods of chestnut, hornbeam and oak trees.

What to look out for

Next to the fourteenth-century tower, the ancient wash house recalls the meeting of two sulphurous springs. The path leaves the village to go up the wooded slope and reach the ridge: you can recognize Cavatore, Grognardo, Ponzone and Acqui Terme. The cross of Monte Menno marks the altitude of 405 metres; the descent through the broom shrubs leads to Santa Croce and the chapel of Nostra Signora della Salute. The circuit continues to Olive, crosses rio Tassere and goes up into the woods towards Foresti.

Start and practical details

Start at the tower in Visone for an 11.29-kilometre walk taking around three hours. Trail 541 shares a long section with trail 544; the outward approach is retraced on the return. Asphalt and gravel alternate with narrow, sometimes overgrown paths. The loop around rio Tassere includes a ford.
