About the trail

The Monte Favato tour connects small hamlets and woods in the Casale Monferrato area. From Montalero you go up towards Santa Maria and go around the relief, alternating stretches nestled among the trees with openings onto Val Cerrina and, on clear days, onto the Alps.

What to look out for

The start follows a small asphalt road between rows and vineyards up to Santa Maria. Near the hamlet, a short deviation from the route leads to an old church and a small abandoned cemetery. The main path then goes up among oaks, cherry trees and locust trees towards the pass near Bricco delle Pietre. A dirt road reaches cascine Monfavato, then descends below Odalengo Grande. After cascina Incasale, a valley leads to Rifredda. From this hamlet you go back up through woods and small vineyards, finding Santa Maria and the road of Montalero.

Start and practical details

The departure is at the crossroads at the end of the town of Montalero, reachable from the Val Cerrina road. The loop is 6.48 kilometers long, with approximately two hours of walking. Asphalt, dirt road and gravel alternate. The short detour at Santa Maria does not change the starting and finishing points.
