About the trail

From Ottiglio to Valle dei Frati, the loop alternates views of the villages with a path through woods and vineyards. Moleto constitutes the central stop, with its tuff houses and the church of San Michele, before the descent into the valley and the return.

What to look out for

Leaving via Mazza, the route climbs towards a small hill with a small chapel surrounded by eight lime trees. A wooded stretch accompanies the views of Valle dei Frati and leads towards Moleto. Among the tuff buildings you reach San Michele, moved to its current position to protect it from mining activity. We then resume the countryside descending towards Moleto Inferiore. The long dirt road crosses the valley floor, where vegetation has surrounded the ancient Cascina dei Frati. A climb on gravel finds the initial stretch and leads back to Ottiglio.

Start and practical details

We start from the square of the former nursery school in via Mazza. The loop is 7.31 kilometers long, with approximately two hours of walking. There is asphalt, gravel and dirt road; at the beginning and at the end you travel along a stretch of the SP37. Stops at Moleto and San Michele require additional time.
