From the region to the glass

Nizza DOCG, a wine to discover

Nice brings in the glass a precise geography of Barbera. The name leads to Nizza Monferrato, but the journey continues in the villages and vineyards of the surrounding hills. Entering the Lands of Nice means to follow the relationship between a vine, its slopes and an agricultural community that has chosen to give this link an autonomous identity.

A city and a crown of hills

Nice offers a convenient starting point to order the visit. The town centre introduces the city dimension; going out to the villages, the horizon opens onto cultivated land. The continuity of the vineyards invites you to look carefully at the differences: a hill changes slope, a road follows a ridge, a farmhouse appears between the rows. The landscape has a structure that is better understood by slowly crossing it.

Agliano Terme, Vinchio and Vaglio Serra allow to deepen this exploration. Each country offers different access to the countryside and its relationship with the inhabited areas. Inserting them into the route helps to distribute the visit between the major center and minor nuclei, where the vineyard remains close to everyday houses and streets.

In the traits between one stage and another, he seeks a point from which to recognize the dorsals already traveled. Finding a village on the profile of the hill helps to reconstruct the journey and shape the geography of the name, which becomes a sequence of known places.

The territory becomes its own name

The history of Nice is linked to that of Barbera d’Asti and the progressive recognition of an area with its own characters. The passage to an autonomous denomination makes this specificity readable even outside the territory. Those who meet the name on the label find a more limited reference and can trace the taste to a precise set of hills.

This choice enhances the collective work of producers and winemakers. The wine tells a origin through a defined ampelographic base and a shared production path, while each company retains its own way of interpreting the vineyards. For the visitor it is an interesting perspective: knowing more cellars means deepening a same geography through different sensibilities, returning each time to the same countries with a new look.

Barbera, structure and time

Nice is obtained from Barbera. The centrality of this grape makes the comparison particularly clear: the vivacity of the vine meets a wine project that emphasizes structure and aging. The disciplinary pays attention to the period of maturation, including wood in the production process. Time becomes part of the building of balance.

In the glass you can follow the dialogue between fruit, freshness and depth. The taste of different vintages highlights how the aromas turn and how the texture of the sip changes during evolution. It is useful to let the wine open, returning to the glass during the meal: some nuances emerge progressively and make more understandable the choice of a prolonged refinement.

From the visit to comparison in the glass

A lunch with stuffed pasta, slowly cooked meats or tasty cheeses offers different occasions to observe Nice. Freshness can give momentum to rich preparations, while the structure accompanies persistent flavors. The dish becomes another way to read wine, because it allows to recognize its balance in a convivivial and concrete situation.

Continue with the Barbera d’Asti to place Nice in the wider context of the vine. During the visit, it alternates a stop in the center of Nice at a walk in the surrounding villages: the contrast of scale makes the journey richer. On the return, the names of Agliano, Vinchio and Vaglio Serra will be tied to precise images, and the label will open again the known landscape.
