Description of the route

From Piazza del Castello cross Carpeneto and take the road to Montaldo. The descent leads to a dirt road that cuts through the valley and allows you to walk for a few kilometers in a secluded environment, away from the main roads. You pass near a winery and go up towards Trisobbio.

The village of Trisobbio, gathered under the castle, offers a particularly scenic passage. Once out onto Strada Borgo Sambuco, you leave the asphalt again for a path that leads to the Morsasco cemetery. The castle and the tower are worth a detour in the center before resuming the route along Via San Sebastiano.

After crossing the SP201, the stage descends towards the Bormida and follows the river up to Visone. This stretch of valley floor is smoother and allows you to recover energy before the last climb. In fact, the long and continuous ascent of Monte Stregone begins from the town, leading towards Acqui Terme.

The Monte Stregone road, closed to car traffic following disasters, remains indicated by the official pedestrian route; Before leaving it is however prudent to check the updated conditions. From above the view embraces Acqui and the Bormida Valley. The descent reaches the Bagni area and continues up to Piazza Italia, in the spa centre.
