cited for the first time in a document of 1220, where the judicial power of bishops of the Tortona, who assigned it as a fiefdom to the family Malaspina.

He then moved to the Frascaroli family until 1466, when he passed for marriage to Guidobono Cavalchini.

The commune was aggregated to the municipality of Brignano-Frascata in 1928 to return autonomous in 1947.

The town of Momperone, Olim Mompolono, was formerly the center of numerous hamlets; located at the right of the Curone stream on a gentle slope at the foot of a wooded hill was part of the Committee of Tortona to which, after being feud of Malaspina and Frascarolo, it was reconfirmed by Federico II with diploma 24 November 1220 (Chartarium, 146).

For about two hundred years, until 9 November 1412 year in which the Duke Filippo Maria Visconti invested him in Perino Cameri da Tortona (Diz. Feud., 1031), Momperone was entrusted as lordship to the consortium of a family who took the name of the place, originally only a predicate.

The first voice of the chronology refers to Girardo de Mompolone who on 9 August 1192 is heads in education with which Arlino di Montaldo gives to the Municipality of Tortona all his right on the castle of Serravalle (Chartarium, 60); the same appears as a credendario in the deed of 31 July 1210 with which Assalito di Mongiardino submits to the municipality of Tortona (id., 33); in Tortona Enrico di Montepolono on 1 December 1233 cedes rights over Enrico da Milano to the monastery of Rivalta (Papers by Rivalta, I, 76); in the session of 6 January 1235, the podestà, consuls and General Council, on which Henry sat, decided to appoint Lantelmo di Casei as Prosecutor of the Municipality of Tortona for peace with the Municipality of Genoa, entrusting him with the task of electing the arbitrators on Tortona matters (Chartarium, 196 and 199).

Property of the heirs of Ugone by Momperone in the territory of the city border with land that Countess widow of Tebaldo Opizzoni on May 1257 sells to the chaplaincy of the Virgin of Confessions in the cathedral of the city (Chapter papers, II, 224); on 12 June 1247 Simone di Mompolono sold land in Pecorara to the former lords of Arquata according to the agreement stipulated with the Municipality of Tortona (Chartarium, 231).

They exhibited Enrico's Giacomino notariat at Porta S. Quirico, Francesco son of Giacomino, Giovanni son of Francesco, and Antonio all in Tortona in the 16th century as detected by Matricula of the notaries who gave in Tortonese from the 14th to the 18th century.

In March 1235 the Municipality of Tortona purchased from their respective feudal lords the castle and place of Grondona whose inhabitants submit themselves to said municipality: the act however was perfected only on 3 January 1349 rogato by notary Jacobino di Mompellone above (Costa, Tortona Chronicle, 85).

Joining the constitution of the Corps of the Milites, the municipality of Tortona with a consoling act of 15 May 1327 ascrives to the equestrian order the preeminent families of the city and district, including that of the lords of Momperone, listing its names to Fr. 44 Tortonese statutes.

The investment of Momperone at the Chambers suggests that the owners have been extinct between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries since from this era they lack news and references.
