The ex State road 592 of Canelli (SS 592), now provincial road 592 of Canelli (SP 592)[3] in the province of Asti And provincial road 592 of Valle Belbo (SS 592)[4] in the province of Cuneo, it was an Italian state road that developed in whole in Piemonte; currently it is classified as a provincial road throughout its extension.

Start Nizza Monferrato, from the new ring road that leads to the former Turchino state road 456, and is an easy and high-flow road. It practically follows the course of the stream Belbo. It crosses the municipalities of Calamandrana, Canelli, Santo Stefano Belbo, Cossano Belbo and Rocchetta Belbo. After a few kilometres, it arrives in the municipal area of Castino, where it joins the former state road 29 of Colle di Cadibona.

Already inserted in the general plan of roads having the requirements of state of 1959[5], it was only with the decree of the Minister of Public Works of 16 July 1969 that it was elevated to state status with the following itinerary cornerstones: "Nizza Monferrato - Canelli - Santo Stefano Belbo - junction with state road no. 29 in the Campetto area" and a length of 29,300 km[2].
Following the legislative decree no. 112 of 1998, since 2001, the management has passed from ANAS to the Region Piemonte which has provided the transfer of infrastructure to the demanio of Province of Asti and the Province of Cuneo for the territorially competent routes[6].
