Discovering Basaluzzo
Basaluzzo (Basarus [bazary ]] in Piedmont) is an Italian municipality of 1 997 inhabitants[2] from the province of Alessandria, in Piemonte.
It is located on the edge of the Alexandrian plain, on the outskirts of Novi Ligure, about 20 kilometers south of Alessandria, along the SP155 which connects the cities of Novi Ligure And Ovada.
Basaluzzo, in the past mainly agricultural, is taking on the size of an industrial center. It rises in a newly undulating area, on the right of the Lemme stream, near its confluence in the Orba, on the north-western slopes that separate the valleys of the Lemme and Scrivia torrents.

History of Basaluzzo
SymbolsExplore this chapter
Mented in a diploma dating back to 981, with which Emperor Otto II granted it in fief at the monastery of San Salvatore di Pavia. It is still mentioned in two other documents: one of the 1000 and another of the 1002, signed by Otto III and Arduino d'Ivrea, with which confirms the previous cession.
In 1249 Basaluzzo was purchased by the municipality of Alessandria. For a long period of time it came under the dominion of the Duchy of Milan. In 1634 Basaluzzo was enfeoffed to Agapito Grillo, Duke of Mondragone. In 1653 it was occupied by the Spanish. In 1706 it became part of the Savoy dominions.
In 1799 it was the scene of a bloody confrontation between the French captains of General Jean Victor Marie Moreau and the Austro-Russians of Commander Aleksandr Vasil'evič Suvorov.
Symbols
The coat of arms was recognized by decree of the Head of Government of 14 July 1937.
The gonfalone, granted with DPR of 7 March 2001[7], is a drape divided into blue and red.

Agricultural economy, with crops of wheat, corn and vines, while forage production favours livestock breeding. At the beginning of the years '90 a strong industrialization has been started that has created plants for the production of sucrose, tiles and other products in the building sector. Subsequently, mechanical construction companies, jewellery, aluminium and glass processing were created; finally water purification plants. Curiosously, while being far from the sea, in Basaluzzo is home Lloyd Sardinia, a marine shipping company.[9]

As betrayed by the presence of the name "Via della Stazione", in the past the city was the seat of a railway plant. It represented a branch between the railway Frugarolo - Basaluzzo and the tram Novi Ligure - Ovada, both exercised by the Railway of the Valle d'Orba (FVO). The first was suppressed in 1948, while the Ovada - Novi races ceased in 1953.
