The castle of Borgo Adorno It was a feud of the Genoese family of the Spinola until 1518, when Ptolemy Spinola remained without legitimate children and established his heirs the sons of his friend Augustine Adorno. By the end of the 17th century, the castle suffered damage due to a landslide. The Marquis Luigi Botta Adorno then partially destroyed the ancient castle and built the current mansion. The Marquisate of Cantalupo and Dernice was established in 1313 in favor of the Spinola di Luccoli with the villas of Prato, Castelstarino, Coloni, Arborelli, Zebedassi, agoprino, a share of the lordship of Montacuto acquired in 1686, In 1706 it passed under the protectorate of Savoy, while in 1776 Dernice was ceded to the accounts Sfondrati of the Riviera.

In 1863 the town of Cantalupo assumed the new name "Cantalupo Ligure" following the fact that after unification there were three municipalities in Italy under the name of Cantalupo; that in the province of Perugia took the name of Cantalupo in Sabina, that in Molise the name of Cantalupo in Sannio and finally in the province of Alessandria Cantalupo Ligure.[4]

The fraction of Pertuso in August 1944 was the scene of the battle of Pertuso, one of the most important episodes of the Italian Resistance that took place on the Ligurian-Alessandrino Apennines. For three days a partisan detachment of the Cichero Division and a group of local peasants, armed with hunting rifles, held head to a substantial contingent of Nazis, Republican National Guard and Mongoli who tried to penetrate Val Borbera. That episode marked the beginning of the partisan presence in the valley, which became one of the most important bases of the partisan deployment in the hinterland of Genoa.
A stele was erected in homage to the Pinan-Cichero Division in the same Pertuso fraction.

Symbols

The coat of arms adopted by the municipality, without formal decree of concession, is represented by a grey tower on background of blue, founded on green countryside.[5]

"From the blue, to the round mastio natural, window of two and closed of one, founded on the plain of green. Exterior ornaments from Commune.[6]»

The banner is a blue cloth.[5]
