Discovering Casasco

Casasco (Casasch in the dialect of the city) is an Italian municipality of 125 inhabitants[1] from the province of Alessandria, in Piemonte, located on a watershed ridge between the Curone and Grue valleys.

History of Casasco

From modern to contemporary age · SymbolsExplore this chapter

In the Middle Ages Casasco belonged first to the committee and then to the episcopate of Tortona. Only later was it enfeoffed to several Genoese families and followed the events of the Grue valley. During the late 15th century, the bandit Piero Ceraglio from Casasco became popular in Val Curone, author of numerous raids against the large surrounding landowners[4].

From modern to contemporary age

During the 18th century, the reconstruction of the local church dedicated to St. Stephen is framed. In the course of the 19th century, the village grows in terms of employment, life expectancy, popular education and demographics. During the second half of the 20th century, however, there is still a continuing demographic decline. On May 4, 2021 a "Big Bench" was installed with panoramic views and on November 15, 2023 the "Laudato Si' contemplation path". [5]

Symbols

The coat of arms and gonfalone of the municipality of Casasco were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 21 April 1999.[6]

«Stemma semipartito truncato: the first, of red, to the capital letter C d'oro; the second, of blue, to the bunch of grapes of red, united to the tralcio place in band, to natural, pampinoso of green; the third, bandato of gold and black. Exterior ornaments from the Municipality.»

The bands of gold and black are resumed by the coat of arms of the noble Bussetti family.[7]

The gonfalone is a yellow drape.
