History of Gremiasco

SymbolsExplore this chapter

Feed of the Malaspina, of the Fieschi and Doria families (1565), passed under the protectorate of the Savoy in 1735, while maintaining its autonomy with the Doria Pamphili Landi princes, and became a municipality in 1818. During the fascist period it was incorporated into the municipality of San Sebastiano Curone.

Symbols

The coat of arms and gonfalone were granted with DPR on 29 August 1986.[5]

"Party: in the first, of red, to the tree rooted, natural, surmounted by the three ears of wheat, held with gold; in the second, of blue, to the medieval tower of Grumiasco, to the natural, founded on the golden plain and surmounted by the shield of red, to the band of gold, accompanied by two lilies of the same; to the star of six rays, of gold, placed in the head. Exterior ornaments from the Municipality.»

In the shield above the tower is reproduced the coat of arms of the Colombassi family. They are then represented: a tree and ears, symbolizing the activities of the valley; the medieval tower present in the center of the country; a star representing religious faith.[6] The gonfalone is a blue and red drape.

Parish churchExplore this chapter

Parish church

The parish church was rebuilt in 1697 on a pre-existing Romanesque church. The interior is a unique nave with side chapels, in Baroque style. On one side of the current apse, there is still the Romanesque apse, made of stone, once used as a storage room and today, restored, used for the custody of the Blessed Sacrament.
