The character of the places
The landscape and its places
Le terre del Gavi add to the journey a border landscape. We're in Piemonte southern, among cultivated hills, valleys and reliefs leading to the Ligurian Apennines. Gavi is the center from which to start; Cortese is the vine that binds the name of the place to one of the most recognizable white wines of the region.
From the village you can widen your journey to Tassarolo, Novi Ligure, San Cristoforo and Parodi Ligure. The visit proceeds between towns and countryside. The territory of wine takes shape through this network of countries, while the valleys open other directions to continue.
Gavi, the village and the presence of Forte
The Fort dominates Gavi's profile and offers a reference to be oriented in the history of the place. In the village, the streets gather a closer dimension: facades, squares and architectures to know through the city page and its in-depth insights. Alternating these two perspectives allows you to read together the strategic position and life of the country.
Outside the center, the landscape opens onto crops. The journey thus passes from urban history to agricultural work, following the roads between countries. Stopping along a dorsal and recognizing an already visited center helps to give order to geography: wine begins to be associated with precise places, instead of an isolated name on the label.
The Fort, the village and the streets in the hills
A Gavi, the presence of the Fort gives the village a visual and historical reference. The journey can begin from the streets of the center and continue towards reading the fortification, following the in-depth information connected on the municipal page. The village and its position help to introduce these lands before entering the story of the vineyards.
The name Gavi DOCG includes, in whole or in part, eleven municipalities of the province Alessandria. The Cortese is the grape that gives continuity to wine, while places add different contexts. Le terre del Gavi thus offer a geography to be followed between the main village and other countries, with the possibility of returning to the glass after observing the landscape.
From Gavi, continue towards Tassarolo, Novi Ligure and Parodi Ligure. The pages of the municipalities open stories and itineraries to connect to the day. The comparison with the Cortese of the High Monferrato then allows to expand the journey towards Acqui and Ovada: the same grape enters different denominations and leads the reader to change territory. The thread of whites becomes a way to build more stages, maintaining a common question on the origin of grapes and on the work of wineries.
Eleven municipalities in the geography of the name
The name Gavi DOCG includes, in whole or in part, eleven municipalities of the province of Alessandria. In addition to Gavi, there are Bosio, Capriata d'Orba, Carrosio, Francavilla Bisio, Novi Ligure, Parodi Ligure, Pasturana, San Cristoforo, Serravalle Scrivia and Tassarolo. The productive territory is therefore read through a network of centers and landscapes.
Tassarolo and San Cristoforo offer other stops between the villages, while Novi Ligure introduces a city dimension. Towards Bosio and Carrosio, the journey approaches the landscapes of the valleys. Connecting some of these locations allows you to know the wine context through differences that become visible on the road.
The Cortese, from the vineyards to the name Gavi
The Gavi DOCG is produced by Cortese grapes. This relationship between vine and territory is the basis from which to continue towards the knowledge of wine. On the journey between countries you can observe the plots and listen to the story of their conduction; the tasting then adds the choices of transformation and refinement made by the producer.
A visit acquires thickness when the vineyard enters the conversation. The name of the plot, its location and work required during the year help to reconstruct a path that begins in the landscape. The Cortese thus becomes a gateway to the knowledge of the companies and people who cultivate these hills.
From wine to discovery of the hinterland
A Serravalle Scrivia, the history of the territory meets the archaeological area of Libarna. The pages of the municipalities allow to accompany the journey into wine other places and other historical periods. Towards Bosio, the hills lead to the Apennines: the change of landscape invites you to give a day proper to naturalistic exploration.
To continue among the lands of wine, it passes toOvadese, where Dolcetto opens another story. To follow the territory through the movement, choose a path from the pages of Gavi, Tassarolo or Novi Ligure. Edges, vineyards and itineraries become parts of the same journey, to be built according to the places you want to know more closely.
