The character of the places

The landscape and its places

In the Acquese the journey into wine meets a spa town and then opens towards the hills. Acqui Terme It is the point from which to start: the streets of the center and the presence of water introduce a territory in which the countryside continually changes appearance, passing from the slopes cultivated to the woods and to the inhabited nuclei.

Strevi, Ricaldone, Alice Bel Colle and Visone offer other perspectives on the landscape. The Brachetto, the Dolcetto and the Moscato bianco are threads to follow in order to approach the wine culture of the area. Before the glass, there is a geography of countries and roads to know.

Acqui Terme, a base between history and landscape

In the centre of Acqui, the Bollente gives a concrete presence to the spa history of the city. The urban route can continue towards the cathedral and the castle, following the deepenings collected on the municipal page. It is a visit that prepares the trip in the countryside: the city offers a reference center, while the hills invite you to widen your gaze.

Coming out towards Strevi or Ricaldone, reading the territory moves on the cultivations and location of the countries. The rows, houses and margins of the wood help to recognize the uses of the slopes. Stop in a village after observing its profile from far away gives the trip a closer measure, made of streets, squares and meetings.

Acqui, Bormida and the hills

Acqui Terme rises along the Bormida, at a point where the roads connect the hills to the direction of Liguria. The village Pisterna and the other nuclei of the center preserve the historical dimension of the city; the river landscape opens a different perspective. The journey into wine is inserted in this geography, alternating an urban stop to the movements between the slopes.

The thermal presence and the Roman name of Aquae Statiellae add depth to Acqui's story. On the municipal page, water and historical testimonies accompany the discovery of the city. To know the Acquese vine, then continue towards Strevi, Ricaldone and Alice Bel Colle: the succession of countries leads the journey from the valley to the cultivated hills.

The Brachetto d'Acqui and it Strevi passito tell two aromatic grapes, Brachetto and Moscato bianco, and two ways to meet the scents. The Cortese of the High Monferrato adds a road in dry whites. Connecting these wines to the countries allows you to build a day for themes, as well as for distances: the historical center, the valley, the vineyards and a tasting become complementary stages. The page of each municipality collects other insights and real itineraries with which to continue exploration.

Brachetto and Dolcetto in the lands of Acqui

Brachetto d'Acqui and Dolcetto d'Acqui are denominations that bear the name of the city in the geography of wine. The Consorzio Tutela Vini d'Acqui gathers them in its own work of protection and promotion. For those who visit the territory, they are two starting points to know vines and productive traditions through companies and places of cultivation.

The area of Brachetto d'Acqui crosses municipalities in the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. The landscape of the name therefore extends beyond the city that bears its name. Following the hills, origin becomes a relationship between several countries: wine allows to travel a geography that is better understood in its connections than through a single stop.

Strevi and Ricaldone, countries from which to watch the vineyards

Strevi binds its name also to a wine denomination passito da Moscato bianco. The relationship between aromatic grapes and territory is enriched with another expression. The page of the municipality allows you to know the country and continue towards the paths of the area, alternating the visit of the center to that of the countryside.

In Ricaldone and Alice Bel Colle, the location of the villages invites you to read the hills together. From an open point you can recognize the succession of the slopes; returning to the streets you will find the details that make up that panorama. This double look, wide and close, accompanies the journey into wine and prepares the meeting with those who work the plots.

From the hills of wine to the paths of Acquese

In Visone, the Tower Path leads from the village to ridge and Mount Menno. The path card allows you to follow the track on the map. The walk adds to the journey time of the wood and passages between different environments, offering a reading of Acquese through the movement.

You can continue to Terzo and Bistagno, or follow the territorial narrative in the direction ofOvadese. Towards Canelli, the thread of aromatic grapes comes back to meet the history of Moscato and sparkling wine. Each continuation offers a different way of getting to know the High Monferrato and the neighboring lands.
