Strevi DOC, a wine to discover

The Strevi DOC the door Moscato bianco in the size of the passito. The area of the grapes coincides with the territory of only one municipality of Acquese: the name of wine indicates a harvested origin, to be known between village, vineyards and work of cellar.

A Strevi, near to Acqui Terme, the valley landscape Bormida introduces a different aromatic history from bubbles. Appearance and time are part of wine, together with the cultivation of Moscato bianco. A visit allows to follow this transformation and to combine it with the other productions present on the surrounding hills.

A municipal area in the Acquese

The disciplinary defines the production of grapes to the administrative territory of Strevi, in province of Alessandria. This scale distinguishes the DOC from the great names of Moscato. The city reference allows to approach the wine to identifiable places: the country, its cultivated slopes and vineyards that the producer can tell during the visit.

The page ofAcquese colleague Strevi to the spa town and other villages. The proximity of Acqui offers an urban starting point, while the stop in the country takes the journey into the agricultural dimension. Observing the relationship between inhabited and countryside prepares for tasting: the origin of the bottle becomes a recognizable geography, instead of an isolated name.

Time as part of production

In the passito, the harvest opens up a further phase of work on grapes. The appearance changes its concentration and requires attention to the raw material before winemaking. For Strevi the disciplinary provides for a minimum period of two years. The time therefore accompanies the name as much as the municipal origin of the bunches.

The story of a cellar can follow these stages and give a concrete measure of waiting. Asking how the wine is organized and where the wine is stored allows to understand the production path. The tasted bottle brings together works made at different times: cultivation, grape management after harvesting and ripening before arrival to the public.

Muscat in purity and concentration

I do. Strevi DOC is obtained at 100% from Moscato bianco. The aromatic nature of the variety meets the concentration of the appearance, giving a sweet white to taste carefully the relationship between perfume, sweetness and freshness. The disciplinary binds this expression to a precise area, while the manufacturer chooses how to translate it into his own bottle.

The comparison with the Loazzolo DOC It is an interesting way to know two steps of the same grape with different communal origins. The Canelli DOCG proposes another form of sweet Moscato. At the table you can devote to Strevi a stop with the pastry or taste it alone, leaving room for perfume and persistence without overlaying too much sensations.

From Strevi to the hills of Acqui

Start from the village of Strevi and continue with a visit to a producer of DOC. The town hall introduces the size of the village; the cellar and the vineyards add that agriculture. The route acquires continuity when the tasting follows the observation of the places and the story of the works that preceded the bottle.

Dedicate the rest of the day to Acqui Terme or reach Ricaldone and Cassine. These stages broaden the knowledge of Acquese without confusing their vineyards with the origin of Strevi DOC. The Brachetto d’Acqui offers a red aromatic comparison: from a wider area comes a production that completes the story of the wines of the territory.

Strevi is located on the left of Bormida, about seven kilometers from Acqui, and includes the Upper and Lower villages. The visit can follow this difference in altitude between the plain and the highest inhabited area, recognizing the position of the two nuclei compared to the countryside. A stop with local bittersweet adds a gastronomic presence of the country. The pass completes the route with Moscato: from the place seen on foot you pass to the grapes and their work in the cellar.
