Brachetto, a grape to discover

The Brachetto adds an aromatic register to the journey of Piedmontese reds. His geography leads to the hills between Belbo and Bormida, with Acqui Terme as an immediate reference. Follow the grapes through theAcquese and towards Canelli allows to connect perfumes and places.

Between Belbo and Bormida, an aromatic geography

The cultivation of Brachetto is mainly concentrated in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in the area between the valleys of Belbo and Bormida. This location gives a context to the vine and allows you to follow a path between inhabited centers, cultivated slopes and cross-country roads.

From Acqui Terme, continue towards Bistagno, then open the journey towards Canelli. The page ofAcquese It gathers other stops and introduces the relationship between countries and the countryside. Each stage gives a position to the grape name.

The aroma in a dark grapes

Brachetto is a black and aromatic berry variety. The grapes have a consistent skin and dark colour; the cluster is of small size. Maturing is early. In the story of the vine, the perfume occupies a central place and is a thread to follow also in different processes.

The meeting with the Moscato bianco makes visible a plurality of aromatic grapes in these hills. The comparison goes from color to perfume and then to the shape of wine. It is a way to know the territory through different varieties, listening to how each company interprets them.

The forms of Brachetto in wine

The tradition of Brachetto includes sweet, sparkling wines, sparkling wine and passiti. The aroma of the grapes binds them, while effervescence and concentration change the rhythm of the taste. The name of the vine is therefore the first reference; style and denomination add more information to the bottle.

To continue, go back to Acquese countries or reach the hills of Canelli. In the cellar, ask to compare two aromatic interpretations allows you to listen to a story made of harvesting, fermentation and time, keeping the connection with the vineyards encountered along the journey.

Acqui, water and the villages of Bormida

The Brachetto leads to Acqui through a landscape in which water and hills are both present. The Bormida gives a reference to the valley; the Bollente makes visible in the city center the thermal tradition. The Roman name Aquae Statiellae opens a historical chapter to be explored on the municipal page. From Borgo Pisterna, the visit can continue towards the cathedral and the castle before returning to the countryside. The wine thus enters an articulated day, in which the city and the cultivated slopes become two complementary parts of the discovery.

From Acqui Terme, the stages of Strevi, Ricaldone and Alice Bel Colle allow to read the succession of countries around the valley. The buildings, houses and margins of the wood give order to the agricultural landscape. The Brachetto d'Acqui offers an insight into the wine with which to return to the denomination; Strevi passito adds another aromatic expression, linked to Moscato bianco. The proximity of these productions invites you to know the differences of grapes and processing through companies and places.

Towards Bistagno and then in direction of Canelli, the journey connects Bormida in the hills of Belbo. A Canelli the historical cellars and the path between low and high part tell a territory of wine also through the buildings. The pages of theAcquese and the hills of Moscato help to choose other stops, with space for an urban visit and a stretch in the countryside. Follow the Brachetto in this geography keeps the scent of grapes close, the work of transformation and history of countries: three aspects to meet during the same travel experience.
