History of Montabone
SymbolsExplore this chapter
The Diocese of Acqui maintained control of the inhabited from the 11th century to 1164, when Emperor Frederick Barbarossa defended him and handed him over to marquises of Monferrato. At the time of the Paleologi dynasty, with the defeat suffered by Gian Giacomo Paleologo by Amedeo VIII of Savoy with the aim of stopping Monferrato's expansionist aims, the town came under Savoy control, and was then handed over to the Della Rovere-Bistagno and Caccia families, coming from Acqui Terme[4].
The painter Guglielmo Caccia, said the Moncalvo (city where he died in 1625), was born here in 1568. The members of a branch of the Cazzola family became consignors of Montabone[5].
Symbols
The coat of arms and gonfalone of the municipality of Montabone were granted by decree of the President of the Republic of 17 October 1961.[6]
The gonfalone is a drape party of white and blue.
